This is the first release of this Joomla packaging of the new CKEditor (v3.0.1). The new CKEditor replaces FCKEditor, and is an improvement on an already great WYSIWYG HTML editor. Entirely Javascript driven, it is fast and clean.
The only downside of CKEditor is the removal of the Browse Server options (for uploading images, etc.). This has been moved to CKFinder - which is neither Open Source, nor free.
This plugin incorporates CKEditor and dbFinder (my open-source alternative to CKFinder), so image upload is available directly from the editor (as is server browsing to insert images).
Please note that this is currently a beta product, but the basic functions are available. One notable shortcoming currently is that the image browser will only work in the backend of Joomla due to authentication issues.
